Today’s Full Moon is in Aquarius, the second one in a row for this sign making it a true blue moon. A blue moon occurs when the moon is full twice in a sign (not just in a month as is often the understanding).
This Full Moon is an opportunity to use your head to better understand the needs of your heart. You have the ability to reflect on what is working and what is not working, and to make decisions that create better alignment with your soul’s highest purpose.
Aquarius, an air sign, is mental, progressive and community minded. Aquarius looks out for the good of the group. Leo, a fire sign, helps us express ourselves. It is all about personal empowerment. With a close conjunction to Jupiter, at this Full Moon we find ourselves desiring to expand our sense of freedom.
The tension arises when we attempt to claim our freedom at the expense of someone else’s. Although this may gives us some temporary sense of control, it is not real freedom. In this case, we will always be at the mercy of the other, always needing to demand conformity and acquiescence to our will.
Freedom lies somewhere between personal desire and social response-ability. If we become too polarized, one way or another, the balance is disrupted. We may become overly passive to the will of the group and lose ourselves, never willing to take a stand for anything. Or, at the other end, we may become selfish and oppositional, refusing to consider anything beyond our own opinions and beliefs, no matter who is harmed in the process.
Instead, true freedom must be found within. We must begin the process of disentangling our self worth and value from the web of group belonging and acceptance. We must, at some level, be willing to follow the path that is meant for our footsteps alone. Upon discovering ourselves, free and empowered, we can then lead others to truth.
This isn’t to say that we forsake the group. Rather, we must see that we are not separate from it. Only then can we take response-ability for what we bring to the whole without compromising our authenticity.
It is when we see the other as an extension of ourselves that love can truly flow and we can take our true place within the circle of life. Then, our beings come to rest upon the inner light of the illumined heart, instead of the fragility of the illusory ego. Then, true freedom can be discovered.
